Signing Your Oregon Vehicle Title
Oregon title signing is straightforward, but mistakes can easily void the title. Use blue or black ink only and sign your name exactly as it appears on the title. Any corrections or improper signatures will require a duplicate title before the vehicle can be sold.
What Will Void an Oregon Title
- Signing in the wrong section of the title
- Using white-out, highlighter, or correction fluid
- Cross-outs, write-overs, or scribbles
- Signature that does not match the name printed on the title
- Tears, rips, or damaged titles
- Signing in the dealer reassignment section if you are not a licensed dealer
If any of these issues occur, the Oregon DMV will require a duplicate title before the vehicle transfer can be completed.

Where to Sign an Oregon Title
Flip the title over and locate the center reassignment section.
Sign your name where it is labeled “Signature”.
Print your name directly below where it reads “Seller’s Printed Name”.
Do not sign anywhere else on the title unless instructed by the Oregon DMV.
Vehicles With Multiple Owners
If more than one owner is listed on the Oregon title, all listed owners must sign to complete the title transfer.
Titles Showing a Lienholder
If a lienholder appears on the Oregon title, the lien must be released before ownership can be transferred.
- Lien release completed directly on the title
- Or a separate official lien release letter from the lender
Without a valid lien release, the Oregon DMV will not process the title transfer.

If your Oregon title is lost, stolen, damaged, or voided, you must obtain a duplicate title before selling the vehicle.
- Duplicate titles are issued by the Oregon DMV
