Maine Vehicle Title Guide & FAQs

Maine title transfers are straightforward when completed correctly. This guide explains where to sign your title, common mistakes that can void it, and how to replace a lost or damaged Maine title without delays.

Signing Your Maine Vehicle Title

Maine vehicle titles must be completed carefully. Use a blue or black ink pen only and sign your name exactly as it appears on the title. Any errors may void the title and require a replacement before the vehicle can be sold.

What Will Void a Maine Title

  • Signing in the wrong section
  • Using white-out, correction fluid, or highlighter
  • Cross-outs, scribbles, or tracing over text
  • Signature not matching the name printed on the title
  • Rips, tears, or damaged titles

If a title is voided or damaged, Maine BMV will require a duplicate title before transfer.
